Photonic Moments award – for selected artist from 2007 exhibition
Announcement: October 24 2007 at 8. pm in Mala galerija in Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana!
The award for the best artist from this year Photonic Moment exhibition was awarded by Natascha Grilj from Austrian Cultural Institute. Photonic Moments has become the official exhibition of the Ljubljana Month of Photography and will be also hosted in some countries of the region of South-eastern and Eastern Europe and also in the wider region as a representative exhibition of this festival next year. With the expansion of this event into the international dimension we wish to increase the possibility of involvement of authors from these regions in the international photography field.
Our long term partner in these efforts is Austrian organization, the Cultural City Network (Kulturvermittlung Steiermark) from Graz. As a sponsor of the exhibition, they are giving out an award in the form of a one month residency and scholarship in Graz in 2008 and the chance of an independent exhibition for a selected author for the second year now.
The winner of Photonic Moments award for this year is Alexander Valchev from Bulgaria with his project called Reminescences , photographic series of portraits of great artistic merit in the spirit of Renaissance after the portrait paintings of old masters.
Alexander Valchev will be awarded with one month residency, scholarship and solo exhibition in year 2008 in Graz!!!

The motto of the 2008 festival is IDENTITY, reflected in film
programmes, lectures and specials. Positioning by the media and
artistic self-definitions will be pursued; individual, social and
global identities in a rapidly changing world will be explored and
queried according to subjective and scientific localisations.

The EMAF is one of the most influential forums of international Media
Art. As a meeting point for artists, curators, lenders, gallery owners
and an audience of specialists, the festival has had a great impact on
the topic and aesthetics of Media Art. Each year the festival offers
its visitors a current overview of experimental films, installations,
performances, digital formats and hybrid forms, ranging from personal
and political subjects or formal experiments to provocative
statements.

At the festival an international jury will present the >EMAF Award<
for a trend-setting work in Media Art and the >Dialogpreis< of the
German Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the promotion of intercultural
exchange. Furthermore, the jury of the German Federal Association of
Film Journalists will award the prize for the best German experimental
film.

// EXHIBITION The latest installations from 23 April to 25 May 2008 in
the Kunsthalle Dominikanerkirche. The festival's exhibition will
present the issue of "Youth and identity". What we are looking for are
artistic stances on and glimpses of adolescent realities from a
variety of regions and cultures - regardless of the artist's age.

interaction as well as performances, music and sound projects, live
acts, veejaying and the latest concepts from expanded cinema.

PERFORMA07, the second biennial of new visual art performance, opens on October 27 in New York City, launching a four-week program of performances, exhibitions, screenings, symposia, and live events including ten major PERFORMA Commissions by Carlos Amorales, Sanford Biggers, Nathalie Djurberg, Japanther, Isaac Julien, Daria Martin, Kelly Nipper, Adam Pendleton, Yvonne Rainer, and Francesco Vezzoli. PERFORMA07 will open with a special premiere of a new PERFORMA Commission by celebrated Italian artist Francesco Vezzoli in the rotunda of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. In his first ever live performance, Vezzoli will present a restaging of Cosi' e (se vi pare,) or Right You Are (If You Think You Are), the renowned play by Luigi Pirandello, which implicates the audience in its examination of celebrity while also pointing to the relativity of truth, the necessity of illusion, and the instability of the human persona. The evening will begin with a Gala Dinner, to benefit PERFORMA, hosted by Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn. Tickets for the dinner can be reserved by calling (212) 366-5700.
